On Saturday January 16th, 2016 Selah Cub Scout Pack 276 met up at Selah Community & Tourism and then convoyed to Camp Fife.

Camp Fife is a Boy Scout camp and is located in the Cascades off of Chinook Pass near Bumping Lake in Goose Prairie, Washington.

The last part of the trip up was interesting. As soon as we turned off of SR-410 onto Bumping Lake road, the road became narrow and covered with snow. We met a grader trying to make the road wider. The snow banks on the sides of the road were very deep. Turning into Camp Fife was kind of scary with only a one lane path with tall snow banks on both sides. We did not see a place to park at the Care Takers place due to other vehicles in the entries. We kept going hoping we could find a parking area near the lodges. We past the first lodge and thought maybe you could get a few vehicles up the lane, but we knew Troop 275 was staying there. We pushed on toward the next lodge but the path got too narrow for the Yukon XL. We backed out and contacted Mark the Care Taker to find us a place to park.

Mark had some people move their vehicles and then used the tractor to clear some parking spaces. As he was doing that, a few took the long hike to the Curtis Gilbert Lodge to start the fife and light the propane lanterns.

Once everyone was parked, we loaded up a canoe with our camping gear and Mark pulled it up to the Curtis Gilbert Lodge with the tractor. It took two trips to get everything to the lodge.

Selah Boy Scout Troop 275 showed up as we were packing stuff in. Mark had them park in another parking lot that was earlier blocked by a truck and snowmobile trailer.

Later that night another Cub Scout family came up. As they were packing in their stuff, one of the Boy Scout parents got stuck. He asked the Cub Scout Dad to gave him a pull and then they both were stuck. They left both vehicles then until the morning.

Up at the lodges, the Scout were having fun.

The Cub Scout lodge (Curtis Gilbert) was very warm. The Scouts played cards and board games until bed time.

The next day was a lot of fun for both Scout groups. They did a lot sledding, some tried cross country skiing, some played in some igloos that were there, and some made snow caves. It was a long day of snow fun.

The last day it was very nice out. The Scouts did some sledding after breakfast as the parents packed stuff back to the vehicles.

Over all this was a very fun Scout Camp Out.
