On Saturday, June 8th 2019, we set up the Selah Sweets Food Truck on Yakima Avenue in front of the Sport Center in Downtown Yakima for the The Virginia Mason Memorial Downtown Yakima Mile. This was a big event.

About the event for their Facebook Page:

The Virginia Mason Memorial Downtown Yakima Mile, is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2019. The event features 11 heats of races – runners of all ages and abilities will take over Yakima Avenue beginning at 5:30 p.m. that day to race their fasted mile from start to finish on one of the city’s busiest streets. It is our sincere hope that you find a race that suits you or better yet, challenges you. We truly want members of the whole community to join us!

We’ve got big goals for our event. Elite Runners will be competing for over $25,000 in prize money. An additional $10,000 in bonus money is up for grabs if the fastest mile ran on Washington Soil takes place- $5,000 for women’s elite, and $5,000 men’s elite. NOT to mention the extra prize purse Bring Back the Mile is bringing as part of their Grand Prix Tour!
Ultimately, whether you are a participant or spectator you are expressing your commitment to fostering a healthy community where everyone feels inspired and welcomed, with a little healthy competition mixed in!

Through the generosity of race sponsor Virginia Mason Memorial, the Downtown Yakima Mile is free for runners under 18 years old. Adult participants can register to run for $25.
